convert report parameter and use in query

I'm new to SSRS. I have a report parameter, which has the values like January 2015 to December 2015. I want to pass the parameter value as input, in the format mm/dd/yyyy, example: i want to change as 01/01/2015 if january is selected. Please let me know the best way to do this.
